To kick off Bike Month May in the New River Valley, SGA Transportation will host Blacksburg Cycle Chic – Fashion Show and Commuter Celebration on May 1st in the Graduate Life Center on the Virginia Tech campus, 5-9pm.
The event will showcase local groups striving towards regional transportation sustainability and active lifestyles while revealing bicycle heroines and heroes in our Hokie community. The evening begins with Keynote Speaker Elly Blue, author of Grist's famous Bikenomics series, leads into an open networking/bike brainstorm with farmers market hors d'oeuvres, then short presentations will reveal the progress Blacksurg and Virginia Tech has made towards becoming a bicycle-friendly community and university. The night concludes with a fashion show of student and community cyclists.
Want to be part of our Bike Fashion Show?! Apply before Friday, April 27 at midnight!
SGA Transportation is seeking 50 'models', everyday people, students, men and women, young and old with great bikes and a lively spirit, to strut their heels and wheels on the runway, or in this case cycle path! We'd love to highlight why YOU choose to bike and celebrate our vibrant alternative transportation culture. A bicycle revolution in our town is underway. It's time to celebrate the people who pedal everyday!
What do I wear? Our fashion show isn't about pretty people on pretty bikes. It's about YOU + COMMUNITY. It's about inspiring others to rediscover their bikes for transportation. Wear an outfit that represents you as a healthy and happy individual, something you'd wear that's comfortable while you bike around town. And feel free to decorate your bike as an extension of your personality!
How to apply: 1. Take a photo of you and your bike and write a few sentences about WHY you bike and why it's IMPORTANT to you 2. Submit to cyclechic@vt.edu or post on event wall 3. Do this by Friday, April 27 at midnight |
